The department has a conducive environment to initiate and carry out research. It is equipped with the latest Fluorescent Microscope, RT-PCR and a fully automated ELISA. The following are the on-going research projects in the department:

1. A study of MRS A by cefoxitin disc diffusion test
2. Occurrence of extended spectrum -p-lactamase among Enterobacteriaceae species isolated at a medical college hospital in Bangalore
3. Detection of Anti-Rubella antibody litres in medical students and health care workers.
4. Detection of anti-lcptospirai antibodies by MAT in rice-mill workers.
5. Detection anti HBsAg tilres and HCV in medical students and health care workers.
6. Detection of Group B Streptococci in pregnant women and its transmission to their newborn.
7. Asymptomatic Bacteruria in pregnant women.
8. Detection of community acquired MRSA by D- Test.
9. Characterization of Candida isolates and their Antifungal Susceptibility pattern in a tertiary care centre.
10. Bacteriological profile of AECOPD.
